Former Honorary Consul General in Lisbon receives Secretary Romulo’s commendation for meritorious services

The Philippine Embassy in Lisbon reported that former Consul General a.h. in Lisbon Manuel Pinheiro Jardim Ribeiro da Costa received the Commendation for Meritorious Services from Foreign Affairs Secretary Dr. Alberto G. Romulo in a simple ceremony at the Embassy last January 27.

Philippine Ambassador Teresita V.G. Barsana gave Mr. Pinheiro the award on Secretary Romulo’s behalf.

Mr. Pinheiro was appointed the honorary Philippine Consul General following the closure of the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon in 1974.

He served with distinction and compassion for 34 years prior to the re-opening of the Embassy last year.

The Commendation was accompanied by a personal letter of appreciation from Secretary Romulo, who took note of Mr. Pinheiro’s dedicated service to the Philippine Government and the Filipino people and his contribution to the advancement of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Portugal.

Mr. Pinheiro received the Commendation in the presence of his wife, Portugal’s National Cancer League President Manuela Rilvas, and the Embassy personnel.
